Welcome to my digital portfolio. I am a 2008 graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts in professional writing with major specializations in editing, publishing, web design, and creative writing. I also have two non-major specilizations in chemistry and chemical engineering. My diverse background has given me the ability to write confidently and convincingly across many genres.
In 2010 I graduated from the two-year Master of Fine Arts program in creative writing at Eastern Washington University. I specialize in fiction writing. As part of my curriculum, I worked as an assistant managing editor for Willow Springs, a literary journal of prose, poetry, and interviews. Before becoming assistant managing editor, I also worked a year as the journal's first web editor. In addition, I also held a position as a web designer and technical writer with the online learning division of the Department of International and Educational Outreach at the university.
I also have two years of experience working at the MSU Writing Center where I served as both a writing consultant and a digital writing consultant. In assisting others with their projects (from persuasive essays and dissertations to resumes and web sites), I was constantly able to reflect on the different forms and elements of communication and, through this reflection, found ways to improve my own work. I also completed an internship as an editorial assistant for Fourth Genre, a literary magazine of creative nonfiction published by the Michigan State University Press.
This portfolio contains samples of work in academic and formal writing, creative writing, editing, document and image design, and web design. If you have any questions, or would like to hire me, please feel free to contact me.
